AEW was retained by Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) to provide Phases I/ESAs and other environmental services for the development of housing at Mission Bay Block 6E, Mission Bay South Project Area in San Francisco, California. TNDC was in construction of multi-story buildings with approximately 135 affordable residential units at the site. AEW’s services included a Phases I/II Environmental Site Assessments for compliance with Article 22A and preparation of site and dust mitigation plans. AEW prepared a site history report and site characterization work plan for submittal to SFDPH in compliance with the Article 22A requirements. To save cost and time on field sampling, AEW proposed to conduct the field sampling concurrent with TNDC’s planned geotechnical exploration. AEW worked closely with TNDC’s geotechnical consultant to coordinate our needs on environmental sampling. Due to the tight time schedule to mobilize for the field sampling, AEW and TNDC met with SFDPH to present the planned soil and groundwater characterization program in order to facilitate the approval of the work plan from SFDPH. During the meeting, AEW was successful to receive verbal concurrence from SFDPH on the site characterization program approach. Based on the results of the soil characterization, AEW proposed to SFDPH that no further action be required for environmental cleanup with the exception of implementation of protocols for the to-be excavated soil, including waste management and disposal, storm water pollution prevention, dust monitoring and control, and environmental health and safety worker protection for the site. During the project, AEW worked with TNDC to address inquiries from the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (OCII) and Mission Bay Development Corporation on the project. AEW is currently providing environmental support and dust monitoring services for the construction phase of the project.
